The Crucible The Crucible is a test every recruit must go through to become a Marine. It tests every recruit physically, mentally and morally and is the defining moment in recruit training. The Crucible takes place over 54-hours and includes food and sleep deprivation and over 45 miles of marching. The entire Crucible event pits teams of recruits against a barrage of day and night events requiring every recruit to work together to solve problems, overcome obstacles and help each other along the way. The obstacles they face range from long marches, combat assault courses, the leadership reaction course, and the team-building warrior stations. Each Warrior Station is named for a Marine hero whose actions epitomize the values the USMC wants recruits to adopt. Bottom line -- The Crucible is a rite of passage that, through shared sacrifice, recruits will never forget. With that memory and their core values learned in recruit training, they can draw upon the experience to face any challenge in their path.

Graduation Dates Marine Corps Boot Camp

To determine your recruits graduation date, count 13 weeks from the time he/she left for bootcamp. You can almost always count on a graduation day falling on Friday; however, there are some holidays that will bump graduation up two days earlier, to Wednesday. These could include Thanksgiving, Christmas, Easter, and the Marine Corps Birthday. The Marine Corps website is your best source for official graduation dates.

10-Day Leave After Bootcamp Graduation

The next phase of training after bootcamp is SOI, or School of Infantry. Your new Marine is entitled to one day of travel, and ten days leave after recruit training. Your new Marine may report to SOI early in order to save leave, if desired. Your Marine should listen, read, pay attention, and ask questions about his/her orders before departing the Recruit Depot. Your Marine will have a copy of his/her orders with them when they leave the Recruit Depot. Your Marine is required to check in no later than 1300 (thats 1:00 p.m.) on the date designated on his/her orders. Your Marine can find these by looking on the signed receiving endorsement on the bottom front paper of his/her orders. Marines are required to report directly to the school if they arrive early; they are NOT to get a hotel room in town. While on leave, non-infantry Marines may contact their recruiter for participation in the Permissive Recruiter Assistance Support Program (PRASP). If selected by the recruiter for the program, ensure you bring with you all endorsements related to such program upon checking in to SOI. Unless approved by HQMC, Infantry-bound and Reserve Marines are NOT authorized PRASP.
